Enterprise Seychelles Agency (ESA) in collaboration with the National Institute for Science, Technology and Innovation (NISTI) organized a two-day workshop on innovation on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th November, under the theme “Introducing Innovation into your Business”. The session was held at NISTI headquarters at Belombre and it was part of the activities for Global Entrepreneurship Week which is being hosted by Seychelles for the first time.
ESA has been conducting various new trainings and events over the past two years, and this is one of the first workshop being concentrated on innovation. Section 5 (e) of the Enterprise Seychelles Agency Act, 2018 gives ESA the mandate to provide general and specialized Business Development Services to MSMEs, in order to facilitate the use of technology and innovation, to expedite and accelerate production. In line with that, the aim of the workshop was to increase entrepreneurs’ awareness on the importance of digitization in this era of innovation-driven and knowledge-based economy.
In her opening remarks, the CEO of ESA, Ms. Angelic Appoo urged entrepreneurs to learn the opportunities as well as the challenges of adopting technological practices in their business. She stated, ‘we portray an entrepreneur as someone who creates solutions out of problems. This is where you, the entrepreneurs must play the role in creating potential innovative solutions for other businesses to either follow you or use your services to solve their problems.’
The workshop was packed with educational sessions by numerous facilitators from various entities such as from NISTI, The Guy Morel Institute, Seychelles Business Studies Academy and local banks such as ABSA, MCB and Seychelles Credit Union. ESA is grateful to all its partners for working together to deliver a successful training.
