Stakeholders’ Forum to discuss procedures to regularize kiosk operations

Enterprise Seychelles Agency (ESA) hosted a Stakeholders’ Forum to group together all relevant stakeholders involved in the procedures to issue a license on Wednesday 17th August 2022 at Care House. The aim of the forum was to establish and agree on the various steps for the businesses operating in kiosks to legalize their business.

The Chief Executive Officer of ESA, Ms. Angelic Appoo raised the fact that there are numerous kiosks emanating all over Mahe, Praslin and La Digue and they are already in operation. So the goal is to establish minimum criteria and standards for the business operators to meet in order to get a license. Several stakeholders who participated in the forum included representatives from the Ministry of Investment, Entrepreneurship and Industry, Ministry of Local Government, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Ministry of Tourism and several others.

This forum is only one amongst the consultative process that ESA plans to undertake as there will be more consultations with private sector to follow. The forum which did not conclude on Wednesday, will continue next week with discussions on whether to permit sale of food, whether to permit sale of alcohol, whether to permit sitting facilities and to establish government’s stance on this category of business.
